[Bearbeiten] Andrew Bynum -hungry' for successful season with Cleveland C

html模版Andrew Bynum "hungry' for successful season with Cleveland CavaliersCleveland Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant, left,[Official http://www.nfljerseysfor2013.com/nfl-jerseys-c-598], and Andrew Bynum hold up Bynum's No. 21 jersey during an NBA basketball news conference on Friday, July 19, 2013, in Independence, Ohio. Bynum was introduced after agreeing to terms on a two-year contract with the Cavaliers. Tony Dejak/AP By BOB FINNANwriter INDEPENDENCE Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant said newly signed center Andrew Bynum is hungry.

And, no, he wasn t talking about the 7-foot,Sebadoh to keep punk alive at Barboza, 285-pounder wanting a double cheeseburger.

Bynum, 25, has signed his two-year, $24 million contract with the Cavs, with the second year a team option. In his introductory press conference on Friday at Cleveland Clinic Courts, he said he weighed 305 pounds. He certainly didn t look overweight.

My playing weight is down to the 280s, he said. I have been doing a lot of non-weight bearing exercises to protect my knees.

Bynum said he d be ready for the start of training camp in October.

One of the selling points in signing with the Cavs other than them offering $6 million guaranteed was their partnership with the Cleveland Clinic.

Going forward, we re going to do some functional training and really strengthening my body so that I m able to play, he said. This organization has really laid it out for me.

He s already moved to Cleveland and will be spending a lot of time with the Cavs training staff. He had surgery on both knees on March 19 and is still going through rehabilitation.

The Cavs so far have given me every opportunity to succeed, he said. The medical staff is great. They ve put together a plan going forward. I pretty much just show up and work hard. I really believe in the doctors here and in the training staff. I m in a different place because after the surgery I feel a lot better than I did last year.
With time off I ve been able to get the swelling out. I m just ready to work. I m going to be in this gym as much as possible to get my game back to the level that I know I can.

He missed the entire 2012-13 season in Philadelphia after the 76ers ill-fated trade. The Sixers sent swingman Andre Iguodala to Denver, and center Nikola Vucevic, forward Mo Harkless and a first-round pick to Orlando for Bynum, who made $16.5 million last season. He was never able to get on the court.

I feel getting my career back on track is my whole goal this season, Bynum said. I really feel like I can accomplish it.
I had every intention of playing (last season). I showed up. I was in shape. It was an unfortunate situation that it didn t work out for me there. Going forward here, we have a great plan.

Bynum was the 10th overall pick in the 2005 draft by the Los Angeles Lakers from St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, N.J. In seven NBA seasons, he s averaged 11.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks and has shot 56.6 percent from the field.

The two-time NBA champion averaged 18.7 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 2011-12 when he was a starter for the Western Conference All-Star team. That was Cavs coach Mike Brown s first year with the Lakers.

Coach Brown and myself definitely had a great relationship at times, contrary to what people believe, Bynum said. My last year under him was my most productive year. He wants to get the ball inside. I m looking forward to working under him again.

Grant said he s very excited to add a player of Bynum s stature.

He s had an enormous amount of success in this league, he said. I know he s very hungry right now, for which we re excited. He s already moved to Cleveland working with our training staff. The doctors at the Cleveland Clinic have done an amazing job pulling together many groups, many parts of their organization to put Andrew in the best position to succeed.
We re all aware of what his injuries have been. He s well aware of that, taken ownership of the process. We re going to do everything we possibly can to put him in a position to succeed.

Bynum wants to return to top form. There are no plans on him playing 50 or 60 games.

I want play a full season, he said. There s no doubt in my mind I can do that.
Going forward,[New http://www.nfljerseysfor2013.com/], I want to get back to All-Star level.

Bynum said he believes the Cavs can get back in the postseason.

We want to work extremely hard, get this team back in the playoffs and really make some noise, he said. The Cleveland fans deserve that. This is definitely a playoff team. We have the talent.
I can t wait to play with Anderson (Varejao), honestly. He brings a kind of energy and passion to the game. I really haven t been around that. Obviously I played with Kobe (Bryant), but just from a guy who s willing to sacrifice everything for the team. I think that goes leaps and bounds inside the locker room. I m really excited about this roster. We have an opportunity to all rise together and do something special.

Quick shots

Bynum is excited about playing with the Jersey Boys. Bynum, All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving, power forward Tristan Thompson and free-agent acquisition Earl Clark all played high school basketball in New Jersey. I m super excited about that, Bynum said. We have a great young nucleus of guys here. Obviously, Kyrie s talent is world renowned.
Grant said the Cavs needed to waive power forward Kevin Jones and point guard Chris Quinn in order to sign Bynum. Both players had non-guaranteed contracts for next season.
Grant confirmed the Cavs have renounced forward Luke Walton.
The Cavs GM said the Cavs might not be done in free agency. Grant said the Cavs are still sorting through all the numbers under the salary cap. That s where Michael Blackstone, the Cavs executive director of basketball operations, comes into play. He s the team s cap guru and works largely in the background.
The Cavs said the press conference for first-round pick Sergey Karasev, the Russian swingman who was the No. 19 overall selection, will be early next week.

Yoakum joined other young leaders representing high school from throughout Southwest Ohio. Representing Beavercreek High School, Yoakum is the daughter of Michael and Karen Yoakum.

HOBY Leadership Seminars bring together a select group of high school sophomores from public and private high schools to interact with groups of distinguished leaders in business, government, education, media, and non-profit to discuss current and future issues. The goal is to provide young leaders a stimulating forum for learning development. After their HOBY program, Ambassadors are challenged to return to their communities to perform at least 100 hours of volunteer community service within 12 months following the Leadership Seminar. To date, HOBY Ambassadoors have performed over 2.5 million hours of volunteer service.

Hugh O Brian Youth Leadership was established in 1958 by the popular actor Hugh O Brian following a visit to Africa where he was inspired by a meeting with Dr. Albert Schweitzer.

One of the things Sweitzer said to me was that the most important thing in education was to teach young people to think for themselves, O Brian said. From that inspiration, and with the support of others who believe in youth and the American dream, I started HOBY to seek out, recognize, and develop outstanding leadership potential among our nation s youth.

[Bearbeiten] How many wins should we expect-

A couple weeks ago, used basketballreference s 2013-14 winshares/48 minute projections to estimate the number of wins the will end up with this coming year. Even though the author of that article did his math wrong (he should have ended up with 36,[Official http://www.nfljerseysfor2013.com/nfl-jerseys-c-598], rather than 28 wins), I thought it was an interesting idea (flawed, but interesting enough to play around with) one with concrete elements (individual minutes & production) that we could use to guesstimate/argue about the number of wins the Jazz will have this year.

All you need to do is figure out how many minutes you think each player will play and estimate their WS48. If you give me these numbers, I ll plug it into the formula and tell you how many wins the Jazz should end up with.

Basically, WS/48 works like this:

.200 = true superstar production

.150 = very solid, efficient production

.100 = average production

.050 = well below average production/efficiency

.000 = might as well be in the D-League

You can go into , if you like. Or you can ignore those stats altogether and just give your personal estimate of a player s 2013-14 production according to the WS48 framework. Just remember, that this is a per-minute type of metric. It doesn t matter how many minutes a player plays, just how productive they are per minute.

For estimating minutes played, estimate number of minutes a player will have per total team games (82), not per games a player plays in. Thus if you think a player will be injured, or otherwise receive DNPs, you need to lower their averages. Most importantly, make sure the total team minutes add up to 240.

Here s my estimates:

Hayward 31 minutes, 0.140 WS/48

Favors 30, .125

Kanter 27, .110

Burks 25, .065

Burke 20, .030

Rush 20, .090

Lucas 17, .045

Evans 14, .110

Williams 14, .080

Biedrins 13, .070

Jefferson 11, .065

Clark 8, .050

Gobert 6, .070

McNeal 4, .030

That computes to 36.0 wins (essentially the same number of wins as Yahoo article, even though I made somewhat different WS48 and minutes projections). Doesn't really add up to a tank.

Whose minutes or WS/48 do you think I m off on? As I say, give me your own estimates, and I ll compute how many wins they add up to.

For WS48 reference, last year s leaders:

Lebron 0.322

Durant 0.291

T. Chandler 0.207

Parker 0.206

Harden .206

M. Gasol .197

From Northwest and Pacific divisions, here are players who last year were WS48:

Near .150: N. Collison, K. Martin, Sefolosha, Lawson, Gallinari, Millsap, A. Jefferson, Hickson,NSA did break law to snoop, according to newly declassified, Kirilenko, D. Jordan, M. Barnes, C. Landry, D. Lee

Near .100: Liggins, Iguodala, C. Brewer,[New http://www.nfljerseysfor2013.com/], Mozgov, J. Hamilton, Kanter, Batum, M. Leonard, W. Matthews, W. Green, C. Butler, Bogut, Biedrins, P. Gasol, S. Blake, T. Evans, D. Cousins, Dragic, Dudley, Scola

Near .050: J. Lamb, D. Fisher, Burks, Babbitt, Barea, Duhon, Fredette, A. Brooks, F. Garcia, Mark. Morris, Telfair, S. Brown

[Bearbeiten] Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 vs. iPad Mini- 3 Reasons Why the Samsung An

Its latest Tab 3 is gorgeous and most importantly powerful for its size. When pitted against the dominant Mini,Official Nike NFL Jerseys Supply Shop Wholesale NFL Jerseys At Cheap Price, the specs deployed by Samsung with the latest small tablet easily dwarf over that of the Mini s.

Note that even Apple fans view the Mini as overwhelmed when compared to more capable foes and as discussed below, there are just too many areas that the Apple slate underperforms while the Sammy tab shines.

Read on to find out the top three strengths of the Tab 8.0 over the first iPad Mini:

The CPU advantage

The Mini draws its power from a dual-core A5 CPU that steams roll to a top-speed of 1.0GHz, which Apple has paired to a very limited 512MB or RAM. For the average tablets users, these provisions are in the normal level but powers users will simply scoff at these components, which experts label as mediocre considering the high standard that Apple is known for.

Looking at the Tab 3 8,Calif city looks to seize loans to ease mortgages, the package is just impressive. The device relies on a dual-core Exynos CPU that spins away at 1.5GHz max and taps into a 1.5GB of RAM reservoir or thrice of what the Mini offers. These just spell plain speed and stability for the Samsung tablet that shows off the popular look introduced via the Galaxy S4.

The device storage contest

The Mini boasts off three internal memory configurations: 16GB,New 2013 NFL Jerseys Supply Shop Offer Cheap Wholesale NFL Jerseys, 32GB and 64GB variants. Such an impressive lineup especially for the incorrigible file hoarders but Apple has set a cap - 64GB is tops as the compact iPad is designed minus a microSD expansion slot.

As for the Tab 3 8.0, users can stuffed loads of song, movies, books and other digital treasures inside as Samsung sell the device in 16GB and 32GB editions. Both accommodate up to 64GB of extra memory so even the basic model can theoretically exceed that of the space found in the 16GB iPad Mini. In reality, the same device afford users more than 70GB of usable disk space, ensuring that the Tab 3 will carry virtually endless hours of movie and music playbacks and volumes of reading pleasure.

The screen and pricing factors

This slugfest area is the Dealbreaker in favour of Samsung. Everyone knows the iPad Mini skipped Retina and Apple forced buyers to make do with a 1024 x 768 resolution on its 7.9-inch screen, flashing only pixel density of 162ppi.

The Tab 3 8.0, on the other hand, is at 1280 x 800 display resolution with 189ppi. The numbers connote higher screen brightness for immersive media playback experience plus a relaxing ebook enjoyment thanks to the TouchWiz s (on top of the Jelly Bean 4.2.2) Reading Mode.

And all these small tablet advantages from the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.0 come at a reasonable asking price of $300 while the iPad Mini remains at its introductory price of $330 in most markets.

[Bearbeiten] Fork stuck in penis after sexual mishap

Canberra doctors removed a 10-centimetre fork from inside an elderly man's penis after a bizarre sexual mishap.

The 70-year-old arrived at the Canberra Hospital emergency department with a bleeding sexual organ.
He told doctors he had inserted the 10cm dining fork into his urethra almost 12 hours earlier in an attempt to achieve sexual gratification.
But the utensil became stuck.
The fork was not visible but doctors were able to feel it from the outside and X-rays showed its position.
Doctors considered several retrieval options before deciding to pull the fork free using forceps and "copious lubrication" while the patient was under a general anaesthetic.
The elderly patient was then sent home.
The medical emergency was so rare the team of three doctors published the case in The International Journal of Surgery last month.
The paper, titled "An Unusual Urethral Foreign Body", said it was rare to see objects lodged in the lower urinary tract.
It went on to list strange objects found inside other parts of the body, including needles, pencils, wire, allen keys, toothbrushes, light bulbs,New 2013 NFL Jerseys Supply Shop Offer Cheap Wholesale NFL Jerseys, thermometers, plants and vegetables, leeches, snakes, cocaine and glue.
"It is apparent that the human mind is uninhibited let alone creative,Good Deeds- Museum volunteer shares his love of aviation history," the authors wrote.
The medical team Krishanth Naidu,Nike NFL New York Giants Wholesale On NFL Jerseys Store, Maurice Mulcahy and Amanda Chung said the fork case was published to create discussion among the medical fraternity "given the great management challenge faced by the oddity and infrequency with which a fork is encountered in the penile urethra".
The doctors said the motives for inserting objects into the sensitive region were difficult to comprehend.
"The practice manifests primarily during states of pathological masturbation, substance abuse and intoxication and as a result of psychological compounders.
"Autoerotic stimulation with the aid of self-inserted urethral foreign bodies has been existent since time immemorial and have presented an unusual but known presentation to urologists."
They said embarrassed patients usually attempted to retrieve the item themselves, risking urethral injury and foreign body migration.
The real danger was infection leading to death, because ashamed patients often delay medical treatment, they said.
Doctors generally try to avoid surgery in such situations, instead choosing an option that would minimise urothelial trauma and preserve erectile function.
The authors said self-inserted male urethral foreign bodies are rare emergencies that urological and general surgeons face on occasion.
While the insertions are unusual, the paper said "any imaginable object is known to be implicated".

[Bearbeiten] Is Gov. Brown thinking of binding arbitration law-

Call it an educated hunch, but from my talk with our governor the other night,One familys hunt to understand hearing loss shows ben, he may well push for a bill to require binding arbitration in transit-agency labor negotiations if the two sides in the BART talks don't make progress soon. We were all up in Sacramento at the to raise money for the at . I was emcee and Gov. was the featured speaker. During the course of the night, he peppered me with questions about what it would take to force both the unions and BART management to submit proposals to an outside arbitrator, who would make the call on the workers' next contract. If there's one thing I know about our governor, it's that when he starts asking questions about something,Official Nike NFL Jerseys Supply Shop Wholesale NFL Jerseys At Cheap Price, he is definitely leaning in that direction. Binding arbitration is not a popular idea with either side, and the threat of it becoming law down the line - like during the next BART negotiations - may be just enough to get both sides' attention. My, how times have changed. Unlike at the original March on Washington, when everyone put away their egos and joined together for one big statement, it's every man for himself at the 50th anniversary celebration. You have and one of the King kids and the and a whole bunch of other people trying to replicate the original march. Then is having a prayer event and a book signing. On Tuesday, President Obama is having an invitation-only reception at the White House. But the president's public event at the Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday may be the Dream event that will upstage everyone else's. There does not seem to be any coordination by the event organizers. If anything, there appears to be extreme competition, heightened by the fact that members of the King family don't get along with each other. Back during the first march, we here in San Francisco spent most of our time raising money to send folks to Washington. There really were no local events. In those days, there was maybe one black cop and two black bus drivers. This town was rank with discrimination. I was the chairman of the NAACP employment committee and had to work on local companies, but the unions - with the exception of the Longshoremen - were just as discriminatory. It was a long fight. When I was starting out as a lawyer, I supported myself by working as a shoe salesman at Kaufman's on Fillmore Street.

owned the place, and he figured out if he wanted to sell to blacks, he had better hire some.

Don't be surprised if, over the next couple of years, the goes away. My impression is that the idea of fixing the financially and administratively strapped housing project system is being replaced with the idea of having the city's various housing nonprofits take over the projects. The Chinatown Community Development Center takes over the Chinatown housing. The Mission goes to a Latino nonprofit. And so on. It would solve a lot of Mayor 's labor and administrative headaches, plus win him a lot of allies in the nonprofit world. And, remember, nonprofit often means nonunion as well. Movie time: "The Butler." A wonderful and insightful generational history of the civil rights movement as seen through the eyes of a White House butler.

The performances, starting with in the title role, are top-notch. Granted, it takes a bit of work to accept as a suffering wife. But as is a perfect fit, and actually pulls it off as President .

The final scene? I won't spoil it,New 2013 NFL Jerseys Supply Shop Offer Cheap Wholesale NFL Jerseys, but it's worth the ticket by itself. "Elysium": An interesting addition to not-so-distant futuristic films such as the "The Road Warrior," "Blade Runner" and "Book of Eli."

What can I say? We're screwed.

Thursday evening, I was at the bar of the to check out the newly restored "Pied Piper" masterpiece by . The place was packed. There were the young techie types who had no idea what they were looking at, and older folks who actually insisted that they were among the children depicted in the painting. The painting is really a must-see, and it's now worth more than ever before - at least to the Palace. If you remember, there were plans to put it up for auction at Christie's. When they decided to keep it, they were still stuck paying the auction house a hefty fee for their trouble. One more thing: Be sure to get the combination to the restroom before you start to drink. I ran into a guy who'd been waiting for a long time in line and when it was his turn, didn't know the door code. Want to sound off? E-mail:

[Bearbeiten] Having a veteran presence in the playoffs

I understand the importance of having a veteran presence on the team. They help in many ways and I appreciate them. What I don't get is the hype of having a vet that brings playoff experience. I mean,New 2013 NFL Jerseys Supply Shop Offer Cheap Wholesale NFL Jerseys, is it that much different than the regular season? Do the vets, who have that badge, gather the rookies and give sage like advise the others can not? It seems like a pompous thing vs. a real difference maker. [Bearbeiten] Has Hong Kong lost its mind-

What's on the menu for lunch in Hong Kong society today? Perhaps toxic soup, tainted meat and fruit laced with poison. The venue, of course, would match the meal - a foul and fetid atmosphere,Nike NFL New York Giants Wholesale On NFL Jerseys Store, with the conversation at every table the absolute opposite of being convivial.

The meal would end with disputes over the bill. And positively no tip.

An absurd scenario, of course, but we have become not just a divided community but a sick and angry one,New 2013 NFL Jerseys Supply Shop Offer Cheap Wholesale NFL Jerseys, boiling over with something approaching hate. Hong Kong is tearing itself apart as it sinks deeper into a self-created mire of irrationality and perversity.

Everywhere you look, listen or watch, you can find the signs not just of dissension but social disintegration … in the press, on TV and the radio, all across social media, and in everyday conversation.

What a lot of trouble we would have been spared had she been arrested for obstruction

So what are so many of us arguing about and agitating against?

The following is an incomplete list - and definitely not in an order of importance (who would be foolish enough to suggest that he or she knew that!): the astronomical prices of property and rents; keeping mainland buyers of baby powder at arm's length; encountering rude visitors on the MTR; the clamour for Hong Kong to be granted democracy; musical chairs in the corridors of government; getting a voice in the 2017 election for the chief executive; road rage and queue-jumping on the approaches to the Cross-Harbour Tunnel; the rising cost of living; the proposed landfill extension; and Lung Mei beach.

And of course we mustn't forget the case of the teacher whose behaviour towards the police has exploded into yet another burning issue dividing Hong Kong.

Since her rant was caught on video, she couldn't deny what she said and did - but at least she has apologised to the school in Fanling where she is a primary school teacher, to her pupils and to their parents.

However, she has not apologised to the people most deserving of it - the police officers she swore at.

Her rant included calling the police kung on (the public security officers on the mainland) and could be seen as apparently aimed at sowing the seeds of hatred against the People's Republic. Further, her insistence that the police explain why they had not arranged to separate the two camps at the gathering served no useful purpose. Did she really expect officers to explain to her chapter and verse their crowd-control instructions?

What a lot of trouble we would have been spared had she been arrested for obstruction. In court, she would probably have been given a slap-on-the-hand penalty and walked free with an overdue appreciation of the give-and-take norms of civility.

But, no, she got away with it, and now in today's spirit of ferment and back-stabbing, this bad-tempered incident has taken on a life of its own, embroiling our long-suffering chief executive, Leung Chun-ying.

Answering a question at a community forum recently, Leung said he was calling for a report from the education minister on what he termed "a matter of widespread public concern", which it most certainly is.

That, inevitably, led to a tide of denunciation from the naysayers. But woe betide Leung had he said it was only "a trivial matter" undeserving of top-level investigation. Would not those same critics have been aghast at his "failure" to become involved in such an important matter? Once again,Meet Tina Stoll, it would be a case of "Mr Leung, heads we win, tails you lose".

[Bearbeiten] One taboo that has never been normalized

Clearly, wrote an exasperated Winston Churchill in the summer of 1944, I cannot make head against the parsons and the warriors at the same time. Through most of that July the British prime minister had been asking his military chiefs to reconsider the question of using poison gas against Germany, telling them he wanted cold-blooded calculation rather than moralistic arguments about the unique iniquity of chemical weapons. The joint chiefs unanimously came down against the idea. Churchill grumpily acquiesced. The history of chemical weapons is largely a history of occasions on which they have not been used. This is in part because they were prohibited indeed, they were banned before they were actually used. At the time of the Hague convention of 1899 no one had actually tried to use projectiles the sole object of which is the diffusion of asphyxiating or deleterious gases the sort the convention banned. It is also in part because they are horrible. To be fair, so are most weapons, and many have been decried as such when first introduced, before utility and familiarity find them places in the arsenals of the powerful. But chemical weapons have never been normalized in that way. Neither the innate horror nor the strictures of the Hague convention stopped first Germany and then its opponents from using chemical weapons in World War I. At least 90,000 soldiers were killed by them, and more than 10 times that number wounded. The weapons often had the effects their users desired; the argument that chemical weapons have largely been forgone because they do not deliver tactical advantage is wrong. They continued to be used in the 1930s, in the invasions of Ethiopia by Italy and of China by Japan. Still, as Richard Price of the University of British Columbia argues in a study of the taboo on chemical weapons, chemical weapons were already seen as different from other sorts of weapons. Aerial bombardment and the ocean-going submarine, also introduced in World War I, were quickly turned against civilians. Chemical weapons were not. Despite having used them in the fields of France, and continuing to develop and stockpile them, the great powers reaffirmed the ban on their use in the Geneva protocol of 1925. The taboo became even stronger after World War II, in which they were used only by Japan. Their special status ensured that political leaders got involved in discussions about their use,Official Nike NFL Jerseys Supply Shop Wholesale NFL Jerseys At Cheap Price, and not all shared Churchill's view that ethical prohibitions were simply a question of fashion. A strong military case was made for the use of gas before America's attack on the island of Iwo Jima; Japanese defenders in caves and tunnels would have been particularly vulnerable. Franklin Roosevelt rejected the idea. More surprisingly, Adolf Hitler too refrained from the use of chemical weapons in war, though not from the use of poison gases in concentration camps. This was in part because of a fear of reprisals in kind. It was probably also because Hitler, himself gassed in World War I, had an active antipathy to the stuff. In their history of chemical weapons, A Higher Form of Killing, two British journalists, Robert Harris and Jeremy Paxman, note that Raubkammer, where Germany tested its chemical weapons, was the only big military proving ground that Hitler never visited. Germany's abnegation was triply welcome. A concerted chemical counterattack could, according to Omar Bradley, an American general,icpc- When heads of higher institutions tackled corruption in the system, have made the difference between success and failure on the beaches of Normandy. Germany, though it did not know it, had a powerful edge over the allies in chemical weapons, having developed nerve gases far more lethal than any other chemical weapons then available. And becoming the only scourge that even Hitler would not use redoubled the stigma on chemical weapons. The only clear breach of the protocol after World War II was by Saddam Hussein, who used chemical weapons against Iran in the Iran-Iraq War as well as against Kurds and other minorities in Iraq. As with Ethiopia and China in the 1930s, the stigma on the use of chemical weapons was apparently lessened when the victims had few friends in the outside world. It was probably a stimulus, though, to the U.N. Chemical Weapons Convention, which came into force in 1997. It limits not just the use but the production and sale of chemical weapons. Iraq may have been the only state recently to use chemical weapons but in 1995 Aum Shinrikyo, a cult, attacked the Tokyo subway system with home-made sarin nerve gas in an attempt to forestall a police raid on the cult's headquarters. Almost 1,000 commuters were affected and a dozen killed. The attack heightened fears that such gases, once the prerogative of nations with mighty chemical industries at their disposal, might now offer, in Price's phrase,New 2013 NFL Jerseys Supply Shop Offer Cheap Wholesale NFL Jerseys, an insidious equalizer to otherwise weak and marginal groups. Systems for detecting chemical attacks have since spread across many of the rich world's cities. Terrorist use would in all likelihood deepen the taboo around such weapons. As critics have argued for a century or more, the taboo is not rational. Chemical weapons are insidious and ghastly, yes, but so are all sorts of other ways of killing and wounding and many of those other ways are a lot harder to defend people against. That was Churchill's position, but the parsons and the warriors won out, and as a result there is, at least, one weapon that the world rejects. Some people may find in that rejection a glimmer of hope that other ways of killing might in time also be moved beyond the pale. The complex and contingent set of circumstances that led to the rejection suggests such generalization will not be easy. From the Economist magazine.

Nasa file (AP) PARIS A large asteroid has been named after Alejandro Jodorowsky, the cult Franco-Chilean film-maker and science-fiction comics writer who later became a spiritual guru.

The Minor Planets Center, a branch of the International Astronomical Union, has listed asteroid 261690 Jodorowsky at the request of a French astronomer who spotted the three-mile-wide object more than seven years ago.

The discoverer is Jean-Claude Merlin, who has several other "minor planets," as large asteroids are called,How to see what your Facebook profile looks like to others, on his list of sightings.

"I detected it on the evening of Christmas Eve in 2005, using an 32-inch telescope in Arizona that I direct over the Internet from my home," Merlin was quoted on Tuesday as saying in a press release by Les Humanoides Associes, Jodorowsky's French publishing house.

Several years of observation are needed to confirm a discovery and calculate its orbit, enabling it to be enshrined in the IAU's list.

A special panel, the Committee on Small Body Nomenclature, is in charge of approving names. Approval came on July 24.

Jodorowsky, 84, leapt to prominence in 1970 with an offbeat "acid western" movie called "El Topo", which was followed in 1973 by a surrealist film, "The Holy Mountain".

Both became popular on the underground film circuit in the United States.

In France,[Official http://www.nfljerseysfor2013.com/nfl-jerseys-c-598], he found success in the 1980s with science-fiction comic books, including a series called "The Incal", illustrated by French artist Moebius.

Jodorowsky, based in Paris, also writes and talks about his own spiritual beliefs, which he calls psycho-shamanism, whose influences include tarot cards, alchemy and Zen Buddhism.

Hundreds of asteroids have been named after human beings, rather than characters in fiction or Greek and Roman mythology.

Astronomers, physicists, mathematicians, politicians, philosophers and teachers are among those who have been given this honour.

"Artistic" asteroids include 2362 Mark Twain, 2675 Tolkien, 8749 Beatles, 7934 Sinatra and 13070 Seanconnery.

261690 Jodorowsky orbits in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, at an average distance of 293 million miles from the Sun, the press release said.

[Bearbeiten] Anthony Bennett NBA pre

InsideHoops.com | June 26, 2013 NBA pre-draft interview quotes from Anthony Bennett, a 6-8, 240-pound forward who played college basketball at UNLV. Here's what he had to say the day before the 2013 NBA Draft:

Q: There are rumors out there, which I?m sure you have heard that you can go in the top three. What would that mean to you and what does that mean for the state of basketball in Canada?

Anthony Bennett: It would mean a lot to me to be picked 1-3. Tristan Thompson did that two years ago, becoming the highest draft pick at four, and it would be cool to beat that. This shows that basketball is on the come-up in Canada. We have a lot of young talent, players in college right now, so the next couple of years should be good for us.

Q: Have you visualized that moment and what it would feel like being called by David Stern?

Bennett: It?s something I try not to think about because it,What about immigration reform- Congress running out of time?s crazy just thinking that I?m finally here after years of playing basketball and people talking about me and doubting me. It?s just a real cool experience to finally be here.

Q: When you get to the NBA, what position do you see yourself playing long term?

Bennett: Probably stretch four. Right now I?m thinking stretch four but later on in my career maybe I will play the three, wholesale nike nfl jerseys. I feel that playing the stretch four is an advantage for me because I?m quicker than most power forwards. I can shoot the ball well. I?m efficient so I can use that to my advantage.

Q: Talk about being compared to Larry Johnson and who do you model your game after?

Bennett: The Larry Johnson comparison is on the spot. I watched the game where they played against Duke in the Finals and they blew them out by 30. He was doing everything on the court, hustling, shooting the ball, dunking, setting screens for people, which is a mirror of what he did and what I did.

Q: Being from Canada does it give you an extra chip on your shoulder to be one of the guys that could make it to the NBA and pave the way for others that are coming up through Canada?

Bennett: Yeah, throughout high school and even my only season in college a lot of people have been doubting me, saying I can?t do this, do that and I?m too small, nike nfl wholesale jerseys, but at the same time I just focus on me and the team. I work hard every day and this is what has gotten me here.

Q: The team that ultimately drafts you, what are they getting? What are your strengths?

Bennett: I?m versatile. I can shoot, post-up, I run the floor, rebound, get my teammates open. I?m unselfish. I feel like I?m a nice character and I don?t have my own agenda.
